Phase 1 Strategic Assessment & Operational Restructuring

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

The Company is a leading organic waste processor / recycler with nearly 40 locations in the southern US region. Its products include mulch, compost, soil mixes, sand, gravel, rock or stone and other gardening and landscaping products, sold primary to landscape contractors.

SITUATION:

After a difficult year caused by weather related challenges combined with operational challenges, the Company had run into liquidity issues. Accurate forecasting and budgeting was a significant challenge, and the financial sponsor wanted to more closely evaluate the Company’s operations in light of the recent performance challenges.

ENGAGEMENT:

The Company engaged G2 to perform a Phase 1 assessment, with a scope focused on an evaluation of the Company’s overall operations, as well as a review of the forecasting / budgeting approach. Subsequently, the Company engaged G2 for a Phase 2 engagement, which entailed a detailed evaluation and assessment of potential cost savings.

OUTCOME:

G2 worked with Management and the sponsor to evaluate the operations of the Company and provided a detailed set of operational improvement recommendations related to process and inventory control. In addition, G2 also provided the sponsor with an assessment of the Management team. The sponsor and Company implemented a number of G2’s recommendations and also engaged G2 for a follow-on assignment to assess cost reduction opportunities. As a result, Company meaningfully improved its performance on a go-forward basis.
