Reed Upson is the Managing Director of Capital Markets at G2 Capital Advisors. In his role, he works closely with management teams of both private and sponsor backed companies to analyze their capital needs, determine the various options available in the market, and secure the optimal facility as well as the surest path to closing. In addition, he is responsible for growing and maintaining relationships with a vast network of capital providers including specialty banks, private finance companies, hedge funds, business development companies, venture lenders, family offices, and other alternative lenders. Reed has executed a wide range of capital markets mandates, across a diverse range of industries, including asset-based loans, first lien, second lien, unitranche, mezzanine, and preferred equity structures – always in pursuit of the financing options that best fit his clients’ needs and with experience executing during some of the most challenging fundraising environments.
Before joining G2, Reed was the Head of Capital Markets at the San Francisco-based debt advisory firm Business Capital (BizCap). For nearly a decade, he played a central role in growing the firm, managing, and developing client relationships, underwriting credit transactions, and working closely with partners and clients to lead the execution of commercial financing and strategic advisory mandates. Throughout his career, Reed has led the execution of over $1.5B in commercial transactions.
Prior to joining BizCap, he worked in the commercial finance and commercial banking, including as an underwriter and relationship manager with New Resource Bank (now Amalgamated Bank) in San Francisco. Reed is heavily involved in various trade association groups and has served as a former president of the Board of Directors for the Northern California Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
Reed earned his B.A. in Business Administration and his M.B.A. from the Dominican University of California, where he was an awarded scholar-athlete and led his lacrosse team to their first NCAA trophy.
Outside of the office, Reed stays active as he, his wife, and their two young children enjoy Colorado's great outdoors by hiking, skiing, and playing tennis.
