Don Van der Wiel is a Managing Director at G2 Capital Advisors specializing in operational and financial restructurings. He has over 30 years of experience guiding financial turnarounds, mergers and acquisitions, carve-outs and divestitures, public offerings, debt refinancings, operational restructurings, financial restructurings, bankruptcies and system implementations. He has served as a C-level executive for public and private companies ranging up to nearly two billion in revenues in a wide range of industries including retail, restaurants, e-commerce, logistics, software, off-shore sourcing and business services.
Most recently, Don served as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and co-investor in a private-equity backed, vertically-integrated, omni-channel school uniform retailer serving over 1,500 schools located across the southern United States. He replaced every proprietary, legacy system with a fully integrated third-party solution spanning customer relationship management, ERP, warehouse management, order management, point-of-sale, accounting, purchasing, demand planning and e-Commerce. Don also developed a comprehensive financial and restructuring plan redefining core product and service offerings, changing the go-to- market strategy and rationalizing the account portfolio and related support structure. Prior to that, Don joined Fifth Gear as an Advisory Board Member and subsequently its Chief Financial Officer. Fifth Gear was a technology-enabled business services company and single-source provider of end-to- end e-commerce services including order management technology, fulfillment, customer care, and freight management. In less than four years, revenues more than doubled and shareholder value more than tripled culminating in a strategic sale to a publicly traded competitor. Prior to Fifth Gear, Don led a successful Initial Public Offering for hhgregg, a multi-billion dollar consumer electronics and appliance retailer which doubled in size and profitability during his tenure. Don has held financial leadership roles at Buffets Holdings, Inc., Things Remembered, Carter’s Childrenswear and Sears, Roebuck and Co. He began his career at Deloitte & Touche where he earned his CPA license.
Don holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Northwestern University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
Don and his wife live in Melbourne, Florida. He enjoys playing tennis and golf in his spare time.
