G2 Capital Advisors announced today that Jim Bullion has joined the Boston office as Managing Director and Practice Leader for the Aerospace, Defense, and Security industry group.
Prior to G2, Jim founded Phoenix Global Services, a provider of strategic and operational advisory support to businesses and government organizations worldwide with a focus on investments in emerging markets. His work has included assisting a food processor in Afghanistan to develop export opportunities; advising a geophysics technology company on large scale mineral exploration in Africa; and developing a natural gas power plant in Afghanistan. Clients have included the Audax Group and Detica, Inc., a defense technology company where he served as acting COO for its US operations, positioning the company for sale to BAE Systems.
From 2012 to 2014, Jim served as Director of the US Department of Defense’s Task Force for Business and Stability Operations (TFBSO), identifying and structuring over $250 million in investments in Afghanistan designed to stimulate growth of the private sector, including major copper and gold mines, oil and gas fields, and the rehabilitation and expansion of Afghanistan’s only natural gas pipeline.
Prior to being called to active duty with the US Army in 2002, Jim was a Vice President at Genuity, a $1 billion publicly-traded telecommunications company affiliated with Verizon Corporation, where he launched a series of Internet-based services and managed strategic business development, acquisitions, and alliances with major partners including Microsoft, Cisco, Akamai and EMC.
Earlier in his career, Jim built and managed international operations for UNIFI Communications, a high-growth telecommunications start-up. Jim began his career in banking and investment management, first as a commercial banker with First Bank System of Minneapolis and then as Vice President for Investment Strategy and Corporate Development at New England Investment Companies.
Jim served 30 years in the US Army and Army Reserve, including two combat tours in Iraq for which he was awarded three Bronze Star Medals and the Combat Action Badge. He retired in July 2012 at the rank of Colonel.
Jim earned his BA in Economics at Dartmouth College and his MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
He serves on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer for The School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA), a boarding school for girls in Afghanistan, and is on the Board of Directors of the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce.
“We are thrilled to have been able to attract such a uniquely talented individual to the G2 team,” said Jeffrey Unger, CEO. “ Jim’s blend of operational and financial expertise makes him a perfect fit for the G2 operations centric Practice leader model. I am confident our clients within this sector will benefit from his capabilities and leadership.”
